The of summer 2012 was when I started to get serious about photography. The summer days were coming to an end and Labor Day weekend was just around the corner. Longtime family friends, the Poineau's were traveling down from Michigan to relax surf-side on Figure Eight Island just off of Wilmington, NC. Since I made the move down to North Carolina 3.5 years ago the Poineau's have always invited me to stay with them for the weekend. Hey, why not! Beautiful beach house, good drinks and familiar faces. Kelsey, their daughter had recently got engaged in the middle of August. Finding this information out I shot Kelsey a message asking if I could use her and her finance, Dillon as some practice models for my portfolio. After a few days of Pinterest, talking and planning we were all down at Figure Eight Island, NC and spent two days photographing their engagement session. This session still goes down as one of my all time favorite shoots. Before the weekend was over, Kelsey asked if I would be interested in photographing their wedding in August, 2013. I was a little nervous about saying yes because photography was new to me at the time. I accepted the challenge and spent a year preparing for their big day.
A year of planning and prepping was going by faster than I could have imagined. Kelsey told me her idea to have her wedding take place at her family's cottage in Springwater Beach on Lake Charlevoix, Michigan where the couple fell in love at. "My dad is going to build a wedding platform out onto Lake Charlevoix!" If you live in Northern Michigan Kelsey's father, Andy Poineau is well known for his specialized lakefront homes and cottages in Northern Michigan. I couldn't wait for her vision to come to life!
I flew home a week before Kelsey and Dillon's big day to see water platform come to life. So much dedication, hard work, and love went into their big day. I have never seen anything quite like the outcome of their wedding. This was truly a special day for both of their families.
If you are a Pinterest fanatic...be prepared.
Kelsey and Dillon, thank you for letting me capture your special day. You both are beautiful people inside and out and I wish you a lifetime of happiness!
And last but not least, I present Mr. & Mrs. Olmstead!
I don't know how it is you are so familiar to me- or why it feels less like I am getting to know you and more as though I am remembering who you are. How every smile, every whisper brings me closer to the impossible conclusion that I have known you before, I have loved you before- in another time, a different place- some other existence.
